Congress Critiques PM Modi’s Approach to Rising Unemployment

The Congress party sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach to rising unemployment in India, stating that the ongoing job crisis remains unaddressed amid his constant focus on political rhetoric. Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, expressed concerns about the increasing unemployment rate, which has now reached 7.5% in October 2025, the highest level in six months.

On Thursday, Ramesh remarked on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Prime Minister Modi has failed to provide solutions to pressing issues facing various segments of the population, from students and youth to farmers and shopkeepers. He said, “Not a single section is happy with this government. Inflation is skyrocketing, the value of the rupee is continuously falling, and the gap between the rich and poor is widening.”

The CMIE (Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy) recently released statistics confirming Congress’s claims. Ramesh highlighted that over 90 lakh jobs have vanished in the construction sector alone, with the salaried job market shrinking by 25 lakh positions. With millions losing their jobs across various industries, including IT and banking, the employment situation grows increasingly dire.

According to Ramesh, these alarming figures have persisted year after year, while the Modi government appears indifferent to the plight of the unemployed. He stated, “It seems Modi ji has no concern for the youth of this country. Always in election mode, he is busy crafting new speeches and narratives to distract the public instead of solving the unemployment crisis.”

Congress has consistently criticized the government for its handling of economic issues, claiming that soaring prices, diminished private investment, and stagnating wages are hurting ordinary citizens. The party urged the government to focus on real economic reforms and job creation rather than indulging in political propaganda.

Ramesh’s statements echo a growing sentiment among various social sectors that the government must redirect its attention to addressing the severe challenges presented by escalating unemployment. This comes at a time when national patience is wearing thin amidst a backdrop of economic distress.

In summary, the Congress party calls for a reinvigorated strategy aimed at addressing the unemployment crisis, emphasizing the need for genuine solutions over superficial narratives. As the nation approaches the upcoming elections, the stakes for India’s future workforce remain critically high, necessitating urgent action from the government.
