AI-Powered Systems Transform Eye Care Access: LG Sinha

Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurated the new Centre of Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital in Qamarwari, Srinagar, today. He urged the medical community to ensure accessible and affordable eye care for all, particularly in rural and remote regions of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Over the past decade, modern technologies have fundamentally transformed the eye care field,” he said, highlighting the ability of AI-powered systems to offer faster and more accurate diagnoses. According to him, these advancements significantly increase access to care in the health sector and lead to personalized treatment options.

AI-driven tools help doctors detect early signs of diseases and various eye problems. The Lieutenant Governor called on Dr. Agarwals Eye Centre and similar institutions to leverage these technologies, ensuring that the quality of eye care in J&K matches that available in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.

During his address, Sinha also spoke on the landmark transformation achieved in Jammu and Kashmir’s healthcare sector over the last few years. “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, we are ensuring that every citizen has access to quality healthcare,” he stated. He emphasized that rapid expansion in both government and private healthcare infrastructure brings a healthy and prosperous future for all residents of the region.

Furthermore, the Lieutenant Governor urged Dr. Agarwals Eye Centre to organize free eye check-up camps across J&K, especially in underserved rural and border areas. He suggested that telemedicine, virtual consultations, and digital examinations could enhance service delivery to a broader audience.

Dr. Ashar Agarwal, Chief Business Officer of Dr. Agarwals Group of Eye Hospitals, and Dr. Atif Ali Mir, Head of Clinical Services at the hospital, joined LG Sinha at the inauguration. The event also saw attendance from numerous dignitaries including Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary of the Science & Technology department; Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary of Health and Medical Education; and Shri Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.
