Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Train Extension Announced

The Indian Railways Department has confirmed the extension of the Vande Bharat Express from Jammu to Srinagar, improving connectivity in the region. This much-anticipated move will enable services to run directly from Jammu, addressing the travel needs of commuters and pilgrims.

Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, shared details of the plan, stating, “Preparations are underway to facilitate the expansion of this semi-high-speed service.” However, he acknowledged that the execution faced delays due to extensive damage to railway tracks caused by recent floods and persistent rains.

Kumar explained, “The delay occurred because of massive damage to tracks due to floods and heavy rains. But sooner or later, this service will be available to the people of Jammu.” He emphasized that restoration work is progressing swiftly, and operators plan to launch the service once all necessary safety clearances are in place.

Initially introduced earlier this year, the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service has already enhanced travel efficiency, significantly slashing the journey time between the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine’s base camp and the Valley. The future extension to Jammu aims to further bolster regional connectivity, catering to commuters, tourists, and pilgrims alike.

Once operational, the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat service is anticipated to run daily, offering superior travel comfort. This advancement will reduce journey times in comparison to existing rail and road services, making travel between these key locations more accessible and efficient.
