Bihar Assembly Elections: Two Phases Set for Nov 6, 11

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced that the Bihar Assembly elections will unfold in two phases on November 6 and November 11. Counting of votes will occur on November 14, concluding the entire election process by November 16.

In a press conference, Kumar characterized the upcoming elections as the “mother of all elections”, underscoring the critical need for transparency and meticulous organization throughout all constituencies.

According to the Election Commission’s schedule, a total of 121 Assembly constituencies will vote on November 6, with 122 constituencies participating in the second phase on November 11.

“It is mandatory to complete counting of postal ballots before the last two rounds of counting,” Kumar stated, emphasizing the protocol’s significance in ensuring a seamless electoral process.

The election timeline includes essential dates for candidate nominations and withdrawals. For the first phase, candidates must submit nominations by October 17, followed by scrutiny on October 18 and withdrawal by October 20.

The second phase permits nominations until October 20, with scrutiny scheduled for October 21 and withdrawal up to October 23.

It is important to note that the current term of the Bihar Legislative Assembly ends on November 22, making these elections crucial for the state’s governance.

Bihar’s assembly comprises 243 constituencies, including two reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 38 for Scheduled Castes (SC). All stakeholders aim to ensure a fair and democratic process with wide citizen participation.
