Adityanath Highlights Role of ‘Political Islam’ in History

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared on Tuesday that ‘political Islam’ has severely undermined the Sanatan Dharma, a topic largely overlooked in historical discussions. Speaking in Gorakhpur, he emphasized the need to address this ideological challenge alongside colonial histories.

At the ‘Vichar-Parivar Kutumb Sneh Milan’ and ‘Deepotsav Se Rashtrotsav’ programmes, Adityanath stated, “Our ancestors waged major struggles against political Islam, yet this aspect of history remains largely unexamined.” Notably, he acknowledged the contributions of legendary warriors such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Guru Gobind Singh, Maharana Pratap, and Maharana Sanga, who all fought against political Islam.

Adityanath’s remarks come in a context where discussions about British and French colonialism dominate historical narratives. He claimed, “There is talk of British colonialism, there is talk of French colonialism, but nowhere is there talk of political Islam, which fundamentally challenged our faith.”

The Chief Minister commended the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for its critical role in constructing the Ram temple in Ayodhya. He criticized opposition parties, stating they questioned the temple’s construction while highlighting the commitment of RSS volunteers. “The Sangh endured restrictions, and its volunteers faced lathi-charges and bullets. Today, the magnificent Ram Temple stands as a testament to their unwavering commitment,” he asserted.

In his speech, Adityanath pointed out that activities promoting ‘political Islam’ masquerade under various guises and warned against their ongoing influence.

Highlighting recent state policies, he mentioned the ban on Halal-certified products in Uttar Pradesh, alleging profits from such sales finance conversion and other nefarious activities. “We are not against any community but want to ensure peace and harmony,” he said.

Adityanath also outlined five critical transformations as part of the RSS centenary initiatives: social harmony, family values, environmental protection, self-reliance through indigenous goods, and civic responsibility. These, he claimed, are foundational for developing a ‘Viksit Bharat’. He asserted, “For a developed society and a developed nation, society must lead, and the government must follow.”

As political dynamics continue to evolve in India, discussions surrounding political Islam and historical narratives are likely to permeate political discourse, reflecting deeper ideological divides.
