Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Kathua district on Thursday, assessing the devastation caused by recent floods. He interacted directly with residents who lost their homes, highlighting the government’s commitment to providing aid and support.
During his visit, Abdullah surveyed the villages most impacted by the natural disaster and spoke with the community in Duggain village, located in the Billawar region. The residents, anxious and distressed from the unexpected calamity, shared their struggles and losses with the chief minister.
The chief minister chaired a meeting with the district administration, urging officials to coordinate and expedite relief efforts for the affected population. He emphasized the importance of immediate assistance to those displaced by the floods.
“We will ensure that all necessary relief is provided,” Abdullah stated, reassuring the community that the government stands by them in this hour of crisis. His remarks came as a response to the urgent needs expressed by residents who faced significant losses.
In addition to his assessment of Kathua, Abdullah is scheduled to visit the Mahore area of Reasi district. This visit aims to evaluate further damage inflicted by the flash floods that have ravaged several regions across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, the floods have displaced hundreds of families and caused extensive property damage. Relief teams are actively working to distribute essential supplies, including food, shelter, and medical aid.
The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority has reported that over 500 houses have been severely impacted across various districts due to the unprecedented flooding. Emergency response teams remain on high alert as weather forecasts indicate the potential for more rain in the coming days.
