DC Kupwara Flags Off Training Visit for Sheep Breeding Program

Kupwara, September 22: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse (IAS), today flagged off a group of beneficiaries from the DC Office Complex Kupwara for an exposure-cum-training visit to the Government Sheep Breeding Farm, Poshnar, Rajwar Kupwara. This initiative, organized by the Department of Sheep Husbandry, forms part of the SEWA PARV initiative aimed at empowering local breeders.

During the visit, DC Suse expressed appreciation for the department’s commitment to empowering sheep rearing practices among local farmers. He assured beneficiaries of comprehensive support to adopt modern methods in sheep husbandry. “Livestock offers immense potential for livelihood generation and income enhancement, particularly in rural areas,” he noted, emphasizing the critical role of agriculture in local economies.

District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr. Ishrat, elaborated on the objectives of the exposure programme. He stated that it aims to equip beneficiaries with hands-on training and practical demonstrations in scientific sheep rearing, flock management, breeding practices, and animal health care. Such programs are crucial for helping farmers implement improved management practices, thus increasing productivity and ensuring better welfare for animals.

Technical experts from the department will conduct interactive sessions at the farm. These sessions will allow beneficiaries to gain first-hand knowledge of modern techniques that promise higher returns and sustainable growth in sheep husbandry. The visit will also showcase innovative practices that can be replicated at the grassroots level, leading to improved outcomes for sheep breeders across the region.

This initiative reflects the Department of Sheep Husbandry’s ongoing commitment to uplift the socio-economic conditions of sheep rearers in the Kupwara district. Additionally, it aims to promote self-reliance through livestock-based entrepreneurship. By enhancing sheep husbandry skills, the department is not only investing in individuals but is also contributing to the growth of the rural economy in Kupwara.
