At least five people sustained injuries in a vehicle collision near Zojila Pass on Monday, according to officials. The incident occurred when two vehicles collided in this treacherous mountain region, often prone to such accidents due to difficult driving conditions.
Emergency responders reached the scene promptly. They transferred the injured to the Primary Health Centre in Sonamarg. From there, the medical staff referred them to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura for specialized treatment.
The injured individuals include Manzoor Hussain, son of Sadiq Ali Balti; Shabir Hussain, son of Hussain Ali Balti; Sadiqa Bano, wife of Manzoor Hussain Balti; Masrat Zara, daughter of Manzoor Hussain; and Fareeda Bano, daughter of Moad Hussain. All victims reside in Kargil.
This alarming incident highlights the ongoing concerns regarding road safety in high-altitude regions of Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have acknowledged the rising number of accidents along the Zojila Pass, a critical route connecting Leh with the rest of the country.
