Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Meet for AAG Girls Commences

The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls kicked off today at the University of Jammu. Organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, the competition aims to promote athletic talent among young girls in the region.

On the opening day, around 300 girl athletes from various government and private schools showcased their skills in multiple track and field events. Their enthusiasm lit up the university grounds as they competed in a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

In the discus throw events, U-19 gold went to Sweety Devi (Zone Marh), while Konika Chib (Zone RS Pura) and Renu (Zone Bishnah) secured silver and bronze respectively. Nidhi Verma (Zone Satwari) triumphed in the U-17 category, with Kiran Kumari (Zone Bhalwal) and Nirjala (Zone Bishnah) trailing behind. The U-14 title went to Subhana (Zone Satwari), who outperformed Sonakshi (Zone Miran Sahib) and Mansi (Zone Akhnoor).

In the 100m races, Damanpreet (Zone Bishnah) clinched gold for U-14, while Nishta Sharma (Zone Jammu) and Shivani (Zone Jammu) emerged victorious in the U-17 and U-19 categories respectively.

The 400m events highlighted talents as Sahiba Choudhary (Zone Dansal) won in U-14, and Nishta Sharma (Zone Jammu) dominated the U-17 category again.

Mehak (Zone Jammu) took gold in the U-19 300m race, while Sonia Choudhary (Zone Dansal) won the U-17 event.

The high jump showcased impressive performances, with Shriya Bhagat (U-14, Zone Chowki Choura), Rohika Devi (U-17, Zone Chowki Choura), and Payal Kumari (U-19, Zone Chowki Choura) each taking home gold medals in their respective age categories.

The event concluded with DYSSO Jammu and technical officials, including Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, Vijay Sharma, and Harsimran Singh, presenting medals to the top performers. They congratulated the winners and emphasized the importance of dedication, discipline, team spirit, and sportsmanship in athletics.

This annual event not only highlights the athletic talents of young girls but also encourages participation in sports, fostering a culture of health and fitness among the youth. With the number of participants steadily increasing, the DYSS aims to continue promoting such initiatives aiming at empowering girls through sports.
