Labourers Rescued After Earth Collapse at J&K Construction Site

Two labourers had a narrow escape after a mound of earth collapsed at a road construction site in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at Beri-Pattan, near Sunderbani, while the workers were digging a roadside drain. Local officials reported that the swift actions of fellow labourers led to a prompt rescue.

At around 5 PM on Tuesday, the labourers, engaged in construction work, found themselves trapped when a substantial amount of earth gave way unexpectedly. Witness accounts indicate that both workers were buried under several feet of soil, creating a tense situation at the site.

Immediately after the collapse, colleagues at the construction site acted with remarkable urgency. They quickly formed a rescue team using available tools to excavate the earth piled over the trapped individuals. With great effort, they succeeded in pulling them out alive within moments of the incident.

Officials from the district administration arrived at the site within a short time to assess the situation and provide support. While confirming the safety of the rescued labourers, they expressed gratitude towards the quick response of the co-workers. “The immediate action taken by the on-site team was crucial in preventing a potential tragedy,” stated an official. “We are thankful that both labourers sustained only minor injuries.”

The swift rescue operation not only highlights the danger faced by workers in construction but also underscores the importance of camaraderie and teamwork in emergencies. Labourers often work under heavy risk in challenging conditions, and incidents like this emphasize the need for enhanced safety measures at such sites.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential hazards at construction sites across Jammu and Kashmir, where varying geographic and climatic conditions pose significant challenges. Authorities are now closely reviewing safety protocols to ensure incidents like this do not recur.

As the rescued labourers recover, this episode has sparked discussions on the safety of construction workers throughout the region. Calls for improved working conditions and safety regulations are now more critical than ever, as stakeholders aim to enhance labor welfare amidst ongoing development projects.
