NDA Takes Early Lead in Bihar Assembly Elections 2023

PATNA, Nov 14: The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has captured an early lead in the Bihar Assembly election counting, securing leads in 166 seats. This figure exceeds the majority mark of 122 seats, as reported by the Election Commission.

In stark contrast, the opposition INDIA bloc trails significantly with leads in only 59 of the 243 seats. Officials have noted that these numbers may shift as multiple rounds of counting remain pending.

Breaking down the NDA’s performance, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leads in 72 seats, the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] follows with 71, the Lok Janshakti Party (RLVP) has 18, while the Hindustan Awami Morcha (Secular) [HAM(S)] leads in four constituencies. Additionally, the Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha (RLM) manages to lead in one seat.

On the other hand, within the INDIA bloc, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) claims leads in 43 seats, while the Congress party records leads in eight seats. The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation leads in six seats, and both the CPI and CPI(M) have recorded one lead each.

Furthermore, the Jan Suraaj Party, spearheaded by Prashant Kishor, and Mukesh Sahani’s Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) are lagging behind, trailing in all the constituencies they contested.

Key candidates have also shown varying results. The RJD’s Khesari Lal Yadav is currently trailing in Chhapra, while the BJP’s Maithili Thakur leads in Alinagar. RJD’s Osama Shahab is leading in Ragunathpur, and JD(U) minister Leshi Singh has an edge in Dhamdaha.

Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc’s Chief Ministerial candidate, Tejashwi Yadav, holds a lead in Raghopur. Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary (Tarapur) and Vijay Kumar Sinha (Lakhisarai) are also leading in their respective constituencies.

In Mahua, Tej Pratap Yadav faces challenges, now placing fourth, as LJP(RV)’s Sanjay Kumar Singh takes the lead.
