Priyanka Gandhi Challenges EC’s Voter List Revision in Kerala

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra firmly opposed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists proposed by the Election Commission (EC) during a press conference in Wayanad, Kerala, on Wednesday. This significant stance underscores her party’s consistent resistance to the Commission’s electoral processes.

During her visit to the Wayanad constituency, Priyanka addressed journalists, stating that the Congress party would challenge the SIR both within and outside Parliament. She emphasized the need for vigilance against what she described as an attempt to manipulate electoral rolls.

“The Election Commission is planning to carry out SIR of voter lists in many states, including Kerala, and we will strongly oppose it,” Priyanka asserted. She referenced previous SIR implementations in Bihar, suggesting that similar tactics could emerge in Kerala as well. “We have fought against it in Parliament and outside it. We will continue to fight it everywhere,” she declared.

Priyanka critiqued the process, labeling it as “the only way of committing fraud and cheating in the election.” She expressed concerns about how the SIR, as observed in Bihar, “undermines democracy.”

“We have seen what they did in Bihar and how they implemented SIR there. If that is what they are going to do in every state, then it is an affront to democracy, and we have to fight it,” she added determinedly.

Earlier in the day, Priyanka inaugurated the newly constructed Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government Ayurveda Dispensary building in the Ernad area of the Malappuram district, a notable project under her constituency. Her visit to Wayanad included plans to launch various development projects as part of her commitment to local progress.

Upon her arrival at Karipur Airport, Priyanka emphasized the importance of community health initiatives during her inauguration of the Ayurveda Dispensary. This facility aims to enhance healthcare access in the region.

The Congress continues to express skepticism about the EC’s intentions with the SIR in Kerala as they mobilize support among constituents. The party seeks to ensure electoral transparency and uphold democratic principles amid ongoing debates surrounding voter registration and electoral reforms.

Priyanka Gandhi’s firm statements resonate with a broader narrative: a call for transparency and integrity in the electoral process. The outcome of these efforts may significantly shape the political landscape in Kerala and beyond as the Congress rallies for public support against perceived electoral discrepancies.
