Tottenham Hotspur’s star defender Cristian Romero will miss at least a month’s action due to a hamstring injury, manager Ange Postecoglou said on Wednesday.
Romero, a World Cup winner with Argentina in Qatar, came off at halftime during Tottenham’s 2-1 weekend home victory over Everton. “No, no. He’s no good. He’s had a scan, so he’ll be out for four or five weeks,” Postecoglou said of Romero’s absence ahead of Thursday’s Premier League trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Romero’s injury leaves the London club sans their two first-choice centre backs with Micky van de Ven sidelined since early November. The Dutch defender is not expected to return until next month.
However, the duo are not the only men Postecoglou missing due to injuries. James Maddison, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Manor Solomon, Rodrigo Bentancur and Ashley Phillips figure on Tottenham’s long-term absentees. With 36 points from 18 games, Spurs are fourth in Premier League standings — six behind leaders Liverpool.
