Jammu, Jan 2: Residents in Jammu are grappling with fuel shortages as numerous gas stations experience depletion due to a strike organized by transporters protesting the new hit-and-run law imposed by the Central government. Transporters affiliated with the All J&K Transporters Association, across various districts in the Jammu region, have initiated protests, calling for the rollback of the contentious law.

Expressing discontent, a leader of the transporters’ union argued, “The law should be applicable to every citizen. Why should only drivers of commercial vehicles be subjected to severe penalties and hefty fines in hit-and-run cases?” The union leader urged the government to reconsider and modify the law.

As a consequence of the strike, several filling stations have run dry due to the absence of fuel supply from tanker services. This has led to substantial queues at some petrol pumps as people seek to secure fuel amidst the ongoing transportation turmoil. The transporters’ protest center is located at Lakhanpur in Kathua district, which serves as the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir.
